The American Legion Legacy Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship designed to fulfill a financial gap remaining after all federal and state educational grants/scholarships available to an eligible applicant have been utilized. Children of U.S. military members who died while on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001.
Anchor Scholarship Foundation Scholarships are open to family members (children and spouses) of qualified Surface Navy sailors who are/will be enrolled in undergraduate study.
Army Scholarship Foundation Scholarships are open to sons, daughters, or spouses of regular active duty, active duty Reserve, or active duty National Guard U.S. Army members in good standing, OR sons or daughters of former U.S. Army members who received an honorable discharge or medical discharge, or who were killed while serving in the U.S. Army. Applicant must be a high school senior, high school graduate, or registered undergraduate student.
The Chief Petty Officer Scholarship is open to students who are about to graduate or have graduated from an accredited high school and who intend to enter, or are currently enrolled in a community college, vocational college, college, or university. Applicant must be the immediate family member of either an active duty, retired, or reserve Chief Petty Officer.
The Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation Scholars Program is open to children – whether natural, by marriage or adoption – who have lost a parent in the line of military duty, during combat or peacetime. All branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard) and all components (active, reserve and guard are covered).
The Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarshipaimsto support the children of our warriors. These scholarships are awarded to 15 students annually who excel in academics and volunteer in their communities.Three $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually per geographic division, for a total of 15 scholarships. These scholarships are for undergraduate study only at a four-year accredited college or university, and may be used for tuition, books, fees, room, and board.Candidates for this award shall be daughters, sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion.
General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant- Applicant must be a dependent of an Air Force member, spouse of an Active Duty member, or a surviving spouse of an Air Force member. Applicant must be a high school graduate enrolled or accepted as a full-time undergraduate student during the 2019-2020 academic year.
The Jack E. Barger, Sr. Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund was established by the Department of Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in 1989 to address the state’s nursing shortage. Established in the memory of Department Commander Jack E. Barger, Sr., this scholarship has benefitted more than 120 students, including active duty service members and veterans. The Nursing Foundation of Pennsylvania (NFP), a charitable organization for professional nurses in the Commonwealth, is proud to continue its collaboration with the VFW in ensuring nurses for tomorrow. The recipient must be at least one of the following: active duty service member, U.S. veteran, or the child or spouse of a veteran or active duty service member.
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Scholarship is open to students who are the children of active duty and veterans who are incoming college freshman, currently in college, our pursuing a bachelor’s degree, associates, or certificate.
The Military Commanders’ Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors and graduates who have not attended college yet and plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study. Applicant must be a dependent child of an active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired member of the United States military who hold valid Exchange & Commissary shopping privileges at the time of application.
The Robert J. Trace Scholarship fund was established to assist young patriotic students achieve their academic dreams. The Robert J. Trace Scholarship Fund is available to every student 15 to 18 years of age residing within the state of Pennsylvania and meeting the following criteria: A child or grandchild of a Pennsylvania Legionnaire in good standing; A child or grandchild of a deceased Pennsylvania Legionnaire; A child of a Pennsylvania soldier that was killed as a result of the war on terrorism including the Pentagon, Iraq and Afghanistan. To be eligible a student must compose a 300 to 500 word essay on the topic “Patriotism and Citizenship – What America Means to Me”, and complete an application containing the information of the person through which the eligibility for this scholarship is made. Essays and application must be sent to the Pennsylvania American Legion. One winner will be selected and will receive a $500 scholarship.
Pennsylvania American Legion-Children and Grandchildren of PA Legion members who are deceased, KIA or MIA or has a parent who has been in the military or is in the military and is a member in good standing in the American Legion.The Scholarship Endowment Committee will study the applications and pick the most eligible ones that our budget permits. An award letter will be sent to the student informing them they have been chosen for the scholarship. Two options available: Plan I the Four (4) Year Plan – Joseph P. Gavenonis Scholarship, Plan II the Two (2) Year Plan – Robert W. Valimont Application.
Scholarships for Military Children- Applicant must be a dependent, unmarried child under the age of 23 of an active duty, reserve/guard or retired military member or survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military. Student must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate program of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree.
The Wounded in Action Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who are a child of Seabees or Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) officers wounded since 9/11.
