The Fontana Transport Inc. Scholars Program is open to underrepresented, low-income and first-generation college-bound students. Students must be pursuing an undergraduate degree full-time in transportation, math, science, engineering, architecture, environmental design, PreMed, psychology, Spanish language/literature. The applicant does not have to be a U.S. citizen but must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and proof of attending college beginning in the fall semester. Recommendation by a faculty member is optional but highly suggested.
The Odyssey Scholarshipprovides financial support for first generation college students who are incoming University of Chicago students. Odyssey Scholars are students who come from low-income backgrounds and are first in their family to attend college. In some cases, they are eligible for additional funding to cover the expenses related to study abroad programs and health insurance. Recipients are also given the opportunity to network with donors of the program as well as other key alumni.
StudySoup, an online peer learning marketplace for college students, launched the First in Family scholarship in order to assist students who have overcome tremendous obstacles to become the first person in their family to attend college.The award is available to any student who is at least 18 years old and is currently attending an accredited college or will be attending one within the next 12 months. The company asks for three short essays (no more than 500 words) describing the impact of being a first generation college student and how they plan to use their education to achieve their goals.
